Daniel Rensch is an American chess player, event organizer, lecturer, and commentator who is best known for his educational online chess analysis and his commentary/hosting of several major tournaments and events at the internet chess server, internet forum, and social networking website Chess.com. He has served as the vice president of content and professional relations from April 2009 there; and in January 2018, he was appointed as their chief chess officer. He is also the owner and president of American Chess Events LLC.

Daniel had first started playing chess at the age of 10. He had gone to visit his grandfather, Steven Kamp, who was bedridden after suffering from a minor stroke. It was there that the two would play chess together for hours on end.In 1998, he had won the Elementary National Championship, and a year later, he had set the Arizona state record for youngest national master, at 14 years old. In 2000, he had clinched Junior High National Championship, held in Tucson, Arizona.In 2004, his final year in high school, he had tied for the National High School Championship, before defeating future grandmaster Aleksandr Lenderman to lift the title. Later that year, he had attained his first International Master (IM) norm at the Foxwoods Open held in Mashantucket, Connecticut. The feat had helped him become the highest-rated 19-year-old in the United States that year.He then earned his 2nd IM norm at the 2008 Berkeley International, and his final IM norm at Susan Polgar’s SPICE CUP, a year later.In 2009, he began to provide in-depth chess analysis and education on Chess.com. His most popular series include Rook Endgames: Beginner to Master series, Isolated Queen Pawns, Pawn Structure 101, and Everything You Need to Know.
