Padma Lakshmi is probably most famous for being the host of the reality television program Top Chef. Padma became the host during season two, in 2006. She was born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India on September 1, 1970. Her father was of Keralite descent and worked as an executive at Pfizer, her mother Vijaya was a nurse who specialized in suicide prevention.

Lakshmi attended the Workman High School in Industry, California, and in 1992 she graduated from Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts, with a B.A. with honors in Theater Arts. Padma is multi-lingual speaking English, Tamil, Hindi, Italian, and Spanish. She was the first Indian model to have a career in Paris, Milan, and New York. She has modeled for some of the world’s top designers including: Emanuel Ungaro, Ralph Lauren, and Albert Ferretti, she is also most popular for her nude poses. Padma has appeared in ad campaigns for Roberto Cavalli and Versus, she has appeared on the cover of several top magazines such as, RedBook, Vogue India, FHM. Lakshmi appeared as a lip synching disco singer in the 2001 American movie Glitter. She also starred in the 2003 Hindi action film, Boom, and in the 2005 film The Mistress of Spices where she starred with Aishwarya Rai, and Dylan McDermott. Lakshmi launched her first line of jewelry, “Padma”, in 2009. Padma was once married to the novelist Salman Rushdie they divorced in 2007.
